If you've always wanted to experience the joy of painting with gouache, then you will absolutely love Studio Sessions: Glorious Gouache in Land, Sea and Sky.
Imagine a beautiful marriage of watercolor and acrylic with a gorgeous opacity. That's what I love the most, the ability to rework my paintings by applying a little water again, as well as the lovely mat finish.
My monthly membership was a place for experimentation and that's where I decided to both take this journey with gouache and teach my students all about its wonderful qualities.
Within the Artist Collective Monthly Membership, I began to play with gouache, creating lesson after lesson for my members. And, as the months went on, and I created more and more paintings in gouache, I thought....why not share this amazing content with other artists, eager to learn about gouache, as well?
Studio Sessions: Glorious Gouache - Land, Sea, and Sky was born.
Now I am super excited to share my love of gouache with you.

There are many online teachers of art on the internet, many of whom are very good artists. Alexis Bonavitacola”s courses are unique among this group. She has a caring personality and really cares that you will learn from her classes. She has a background in education and goes above and beyond the normal effort to pack her courses full of useful information that supplements her teaching. She is involved in our Facebook groups, and offers helpful suggestions if you ask for them. The group has been one of my favorite places to " hang out.” This is truly a unique combination of gifts to anyone who would like to join her classes.
Alexis is an amazing teacher and Artist in her own right and openly shares her own journey to encourage and inspire her students.
Developing The Whole Artist
After 27 years of teaching, a PhD in educational leadership, launching many e-courses, The Artist Collective Membership, and witnessing the amazing success of my students, I’ve put together a class where you’ll feel confident in creating beautiful gouache pieces that express YOU.
I’ll teach you techniques and, together with your imagination, new-found understanding of land, seas, and skies, I have no doubt that you will soar. And, although the course is centered on land, seas, and skies, I've included a fabulous five-video step-by-step to create a gorgeous fall pumpkin scene as well as a six-video step-by-step working with fun stencils to create a piece called Floral Whimsy.
And, while I'll provide you with several reference images, you will immediately be able to apply my teaching techniques to create your own beautiful works of art from your own photos.
I'll share my techniques to create glorious clouds - Cloud Dance
What's Inside Glorious Gouache
Modules 1- 3 begins with a Welcome Video providing an overview of all that you will learn. It is all about getting you started with the right supplies, your downloadable supply list as well as how to find your way around the course room, and how to join our new Facebook Learning Community.
Module 4 is our foundational module where I'll introduce you to the essential supplies, how to work effectively with gouache, color mixing, what to do when your paints dry on the palette (it happens!), sealing and framing your paintings, finding the perfect reference photos, and how to clean your brushes.
Module 5 - 7 teaches you how to create stunning scenes. First up is Moody, Dreamy Winter's day. This gorgeous painting is both simple to create and dramatic! We then move on to our atmospheric scene - Sublime.
In this module we go on an adventure to visit an atmospheric scene in black, white and gray. I call this painting, Sublime. We'll begin with the reference photo and supplies, how to prep the paper and lightly draw out the very simple scene. We move on to painting the sky and building the scene and then I reveal the finished stunning painting. You'll even get to see some of the student art created in this module. Next, we explore seascapes.
The Breaking Point is next and is based on a piece that I created in gouache. I share the reference photo and supplies and then we start with a tonal value study. Through a five-part series of lessons, I'll share why creating a tonal study is important and who doesn't love creating in black and white? We move on to the creation of a seascape in color (the piece to the right) and you can let your imagination soar, imagining your own colors, to create pieces all your own.
Module 8 invites you to think outside of the box where we create the piece, Tuscan Sky (the top piece to the right). We go a little larger here and besides the reference photo and supplies, I will show you step-by-step how to create dramatic effects in the sky.
Module 9 - A View From The Bridge - I am super excited to share a new five-part addition to Glorious Gouache based on a reference photo that I took in New Hope, PA. The view was amazing. This session is about using your own photos to create your own beautiful masterpieces.
Module 10 - Glorious Clouds is absolutely gorgeous! A recent addition to the course, you'll begin with your supplies and a three-part step-by-step series of art tutorials on how to use your imagination to create these beautiful clouds. I'll also introduce you to my favorite app for finding values in your art - an essential component in creating any work of art.
The remaining seven modules encompass the following: How to deconstruct a photo, Floral Whimsy - playing with stencils + gouache, The Great Pumpkin, Reference Photos and much more.
Bonuses- If you love creating abstract pieces, then you will adore this dynamic piece entitled, Living On The Edge, which immediately sold when I shared in one of my newest Collections. As an alcohol ink artist, I wanted to see if all of my years of experience with inks would cross-over into gouache and the piece to the right is the result of my experimentation. I cannot wait to teach you how to create your own abstract work of art with glorious gouache.
Additional bonuses include stunning reference photos for you to use to stretch your imagination in creating land, seas, and skies.
She has helped so many of us to believe in ourselves as artists and work toward our goals. Her presentation and course content is top notch and very thorough, including workbooks and progress checklists to keep us focused and organized. It is a true honor to be walking alongside her on my artistic journey, and sharing in her hers as well. I am proud to call her my mentor and friend!
I couldn’t ask for a more personable instructor, as she makes you feel an essential part of her class. She listens to all her students and helped me through my trials and tribulations in areas I am struck. I love how she boosts you up to feel good about your work and how she makes everyone feel part of the group. Alexis is there when needed and will (gently) push you to reach the goals you set for yourself. Her sense of humor and her ability to laugh at herself is so refreshing. Yes, she is an expert but never comes across as the “know it all.” She is a true inspiration. Thank you Alexis for all the great lessons you have created.
